BAS Eddy Current Separators: Maximising Non-Ferrous Metal Recovery
Published:

Recovering value from mixed waste streams is a priority for recyclers across every sector. The better the separation, the cleaner the end product and the stronger the return. Machines On The Market is pleased to offer new BAS Eddy Current Separators, and can supply the full range of BAS magnets and eddy current systems.
What Is an Eddy Current Separator?
An eddy current separator uses a high-speed rotating magnetic rotor to create a repelling force in non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, copper and brass. As material travels along the conveyor belt, these metals are thrown clear of the waste stream and into a separate collection point. Non-metallic material simply falls away at the end of the belt.
The result is a fast, automated and highly effective way to recover valuable non-ferrous metals from material that would otherwise be lost to landfill or low-value fractions.
Typical Applications
BAS eddy current separators suit a wide range of recycling operations, including:
- Municipal solid waste (MSW) and commercial and industrial (C&I) waste
- Incinerator bottom ash (IBA)
- Shredded scrap and end-of-life vehicle residue
- Wood and biomass recycling: removing metals before processing
- Glass and plastics recycling: improving product purity
- Cable and WEEE recycling
The BAS Range Currently Available
New BAS Eddy Current Separator with Vibratory Feeder: £58,900
- Model BECS-EC-1000-12-VF
- Belt widths from 1000 mm to 1600 mm
- 12 to 24 pole magnetic rotor configurations
- High-strength N50M neodymium magnets
- Integrated vibratory feeder for an even, controlled flow of material
- Location: Manchester, UK
New BAS Eddy Current Separator with Drum Magnet and Feeder: £69,300
- Complete separation package: drum magnet, vibratory feeder and eddy current separator
- Belt widths from 1000 mm to 1600 mm
- Vibratory feeder measuring 950 mm × 1500 mm
- 12-pole magnetic rotor with N50M neodymium magnets
- The drum magnet removes ferrous metals before the eddy current stage, protecting the belt and improving non-ferrous recovery
Why Choose a Combined System?
Feeding material evenly is critical to separation performance. An integrated vibratory feeder spreads material into a consistent mono-layer across the belt, so each particle is exposed to the magnetic field.
Adding a drum magnet upstream removes ferrous contamination first. This protects the eddy current rotor and belt from damage, and produces two clean, saleable metal fractions in a single pass.
For operators building a new line or upgrading an existing one, a combined system offers:
- Higher recovery rates of aluminium, copper and other non-ferrous metals
- Cleaner output fractions that command better prices
- Reduced contamination in residual waste streams
- Lower landfill and disposal costs
- A compact, ready-to-install package
